For the past seven years, the Red Carpet Foundation has allowed children facing extraordinary medical challenges the exciting opportunity to attend a red carpet event with their family and friends. This year we are hoping to expand our mission so that we bring the excitement and glamour of the red carpet directly to our beneficiaries hospital beds. “Giftbags for the Kids” is a tentative title for a program that we are developing designed to lift the spirits of young people who live in hospitals by offering them giftbags similar to the ones traditionally given to celebrities and presenters at awards shows such as the Oscars and the Golden Globes. The giftbags will be age appropriate and designed to fit the needs of individuals living in hospitals. Each bag will likely contain the following: Apple Ipod Celebrity designed T-shirt Stuffed Animal Colorful comfort socks Heart Pendant Necklace Selection of Age Appropriate Magazines Selected toys and games ‘Songs of Hope’ Album Gift certificates for local businesses Greeting card with words of support from our sponsors The event will take place mid-February 2009, leading up to the Academy Awards and we were hoping that the giftbags could go to the kids at the Mattel Children’s Hospital.

December has been a great month for the Red Carpet Foundation as the studios roll out the red carpet to premiere the films they hope will bring them oscar gold. Decemeber 7th found the Foundation at the premiere of "The Pursuit of Happyness" alongside TomKat and JoLo at Fox Theater in Westwood. Last week the Foundation attended both the premiere of "Rocky Balboa" and "We Are Marshall" at Grauman's Chinese Theater. Yet of all the red carpet events of December, the most excting event to attend was a charity event for the Art of Elysium sponsored by Dolce & Gabbana. Held poolside at the Chateau Marmont the event hosted some of Hollywood's brightest stars uncluding Pelelope Cruz, Selma Hayek, Jessica Beil, Paris Hilton, Mischa Barton, Sharon Stone, Rose McGowen, Eva Longoria, Lindsay Lohan, Molly Sims, Orlando Bloom, Dustin Hoffman, James Franco and number of other notables. Great night for a great cause.

The Red Carpet Foundation was on hand for the premiere of, dare we say, Jackass II alongside beneficiary C.J. Johnson and friends. The Jackass crew was on hand alongside Tony Hawk, Drea de Mateo, and Lee Majors. The energy in the air before the film began was very intense as the crowd eagerly awaited the ridiculousness that was about to unfold on screen. The film didn’t disappoint, as fans were laughing, cringing and cheering throughout the film.

It’s summer time in the City of Angels! That means summer blockbusters and big summer premieres. The past two days have seen the premieres of "John Tucker Must Die" and "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" respectively at the world famous Chinese Theater and the only thing crazier than the humidity were the fans trying to get a glimpse of the stars walking the red carpet. You’d think that the heat wave that has attacked California would detur the crowds from gathering along Hollywood Blvd. however fans not only lined the streets in hoards but they were fighting for position along the guard rails across from the theater. At the Talladega nights premiere, Will Farrell and John C. Reilly were dressed in the NASCAR Uniforms taking photos on the red carpet next to an actual race car. Also on the red carpet were Brittney Murphy, Amanda Bynes, Bruce Willis, Jeremy Piven, Brett Ratner, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tim Duncan who recently won the ESPY for most boring dominant player in the NBA since Karl Malone. The Talladega After Party rivaled Miami Vice for best premiere after party of the 2006 summer premiere season. Like the Vice Party, the Talladega party was set outdoors in a parking lot near the theater. As guests ate and drank under the stars to the sounds of ACDC and Lynard Skynard, huge screens played video footage of NASCAR races while NASCAR vehicles and racing simulators could be found throughout the outer realms of the party. A rare appearance by Sasha Baren Cohen was definitely the highlight of the party, at least for all the Ali G fans in attendance. Also on the scene at the party was Bruce Willis, Will Farrell, and Brittney Murphy. Cheers to Sony for a great summer premiere!

A belated ALOHA from Maui! The Red Carpet Foundation was on hand at the Maui Film Festival this past June. Premieres under the stars, lounging at the Grand Wailea Resort, and relaxing at the famous Big Beach... what an amazing experience!

The Red Carpet Foundation would like to thank our UCLA Volunteers for their support at both the "Benchwarmers" and "Lost City" premieres this month. Beneficiaries from the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital will be attending the premiere of “RV” starring Robin Williams this Sunday at the Fox Theater in Westwood. We would love to see more students supporting our beneficiaries as they walk down the red carpet, so feel free to stop by. The Foundation looks forward to an exciting summer filled with red carpet events including the Maui Film Festival and the “Pirates of the Caribbean II” premiere in June. Stay tuned for more info as the summer progresses…

Jason and Sherry of the RCF dusted off their tux and formal dress respectively to attend the Royal London Premiere of 'The Chronicles of Narnia' alongside the Foundation's new board member Don Ogan. While sipping tea and listening to classical music, guests reminisced about the good old days when crumpets were only 40 quip and double-decker busses were all the rave. Actually the premiere was very similar to a U.S. premiere except you weren't allowed to wear jeans, there was no popcorn and none of the names on the reserved section placards ended in "berg" or "stein”.

Magnolia Films premiered "The World's Fastest Indian" at the AFI Film Festival on Tuesday. Present on the red carpet were Anthony Hopkins, Diane Ladd and director Roger Donaldson. The film concluded with a standing ovation for the film's star Anthony Hopkins

The Red Carpet Foundation walked the red carpet at the premiere of "Walk the Line" for the opening night gala for the AFI Film Festival in Los Angeles. Present on the red carpet were the film's stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon as well as a host of other celebs and industry folk. The afterparty was at Vanguard in Hollywood very close to the historic Cinerama Dome where the Festival is taking place. Look forward to more RCF events at AFI...

Never before has the Foundation seen more baggy jeans at a premiere than at Paramount's world premiere of "Get Rich or Die Tryin". Streets were lined and bleachers were packed with hip hop fans from all over California. The Foundation spoke with Tinesha Johnson who came to Hollywood all the way from Sacramento to see if she could meet 50 Cent and possibly be in his next music video. The after party was at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, just a block away from Grauman's theater where the premiere occurred. Unfortunately, so many people were trying to get into the party that fire marshals were forced to shut the party down and turn away as many as 100 people from the event.

The Red Carpet Foundation celebrated the 83rd birthday of the red carpet at the star-studded T-Mobile Launch Party in Hollywood. In attendance were starlets Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Mischa Barton as well as Shame West, Jesse Metcalf, and Hollywood C-lister Simon Rex. The highlight of the night was a special performance by the Pussycat Dolls. Actually, the real highlight of the night was that Rose McGowan got arrested and taken away in handcuffs for apparently attacking Paris Hilton. Bystanders who witnessed the event were surprised that Paris Hilton's wealth could not afford her a better attitude and seemed to support McGowan's actions. The Foundation was blessed to have such an eventful night on its 3rd birthday.

Happy 83rd birthday to the red carpet in Hollywood and happy 3rd birthday to The Red Carpet Foundation. The Foundation will be celebrating tonight in Hollywood... details as they arise.

Wow! What a night. Warner Brother's premiered "North Country" at Grauman's. The after party was at the historic Roosevelt Hotel - home to the first ever Academy Awards in 1929 (but I'm sure you already knew that didn't you). Life is good.

Lions Gate Films premiered "Waiting" at the Mann Bruin Theater tonight in Westwood. The Red Carpet Foundation was in attendance as well as Ryan Reynolds, Dane Cook, Louis Guzman, and Andy Milonakis. The film was presented to the audience by writer / director Rob McKittrick who thanked the 16 producers who worked on the film over the past eight years as well as the cast. The after party was at Jerry's Famous Deli in Westwood. Dance music blared as guests enjoyed a selection of deli-style food entries and an open bar. All in all, this premiere shared the festive and comical spirit of the film itself.

Fox Studios rolled out the red carpet at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for the premiere of "In Her Shoes". The Red Carpet Foundation was on hand to witness all the glamour and excitement. On the red carpet were Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, Shirley Maclaine, Lauren Mayhew, and Venus Williams. Also on hand was the film's director and producer Curtis Hanson whose work can be seen in "LA Confidential" and "Erin Brockovich".

The Red Carpet Foundation attended the premiere of Fox Home Video's "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story" at the National Theater in Westwood. Present on the red carpet were Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane, Drew Barrymore, Ron Livingston, Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr. and Mekhi Phifer. The after party was at the Hammer Museum in Westwood. Guests enjoyed music from a live orchestra as well as an impressive selection of food & beverage. This was the best premiere imaginable for a film that is going straight to DVD ;)

The Red Carpet Foundation attended the Los Angeles premiere of First Look Studio's "Forty Shades of Blue" at the Egyptian Theater. This premiere was very low key and did not even have a red carpet. However, there was an intimate charm to this event that made you feel like you were attending a cast and crew screening at the director's house. Before the film started director Ira Sachs introduced all the major players in the film with the exception of Rip Torn who was unable to make it and took the time to thank a number of people in the audience for their help and their attendance at the premiere. This informal elegance continued at the after party. Where as normally loud music celebrates the giving of a film to the public, there was a live band performing and small food and beverage stations where guests could help themselves to homemade mac-n-cheese and BBQ'd ribs. I was even able to speak with Andre 3000 of Outkast for 15 minutes without having his publicist grab him or photographers snap photos of our conversation. The Egyptian Theater was home to the first ever movie premiere in Hollywood way back in 1922 by Hollywood's Master Showman Sid Grauman. To this day there is an eerie feeling you get when you attend an event at the Egyptian as though Sid Grauman's spirit still roams the dark passages and high ceilings of the theater.

On Wednesday, the Red Carpet Foundation attended the "Into the Blue" premiere in Westwood at the historic Fox Theatre. All the stars of the film were present including Jessica Alba, Paul Walker and Tyson Beckford. The traditional red carpet was replaced with blue carpet for obvious reasons and a number of the guests wore blue accessories to the event. This premiere felt like a summer blockbuster premiere in that there were a large number of cheering fans outside and inside the event. Eager fans were even asking Paul Walker for autographs and picture opportunities in the theater.

We would like to welcome Don Ogan to the Red Carpet Foundation's Board of Directors. Like many of the Foundation's beneficiaries, Don has faced great obstacles in his life. Growing up in a foster home in South Central Los Angeles, he constantly dealt with the difficulties of inner city life watching many of his childhood friends fall victim to drugs and crime. Never succumbing to the pressure, Don went on to graduate high school and college. After graduating college he began working for a small technology firm. He quickly became the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Following 10 years in the technology field, Don began working for a small housewares company named Aroma. Through innovative product development and an aggressive sales approach Don has helped Aroma become a rapidly growing company in the field of houseware appliances. Don currently is the president of Aroma Housewares Company, and lives in San Diego with his wife Laura and their 4 children. He hopes to inspire and motivate the Foundation's beneficiaries to overcome the challenges that they face. He plans on achieving his goals by not only taking people to red carpet events but also taking the excitement of the red carpet and the hope it can bring to the hospitals and schools where many of our beneficiaries are found. We look forward to working with Don as he pursues his passion of making a difference in people's lives.
